Frequently asked questions

Is PointSmart really free?

Yes. No account required, no paywall, no premium tier. We earn a small commission when partners pay us for outbound clicks that lead to bookings or approved card applications — that's the entire business model. Full breakdown in our Advertiser Disclosure.

How do you decide which card is "best" for a trip?

We multiply the trip's expected cash price by each of your selected cards' published flight or hotel earn-rate, then pick the card with the highest expected point value. Pure math, no affiliate weighting. The card that gets the "Best Value" badge is the highest-earning one for the trip — not the one that pays us the most.

Where do the card multipliers come from?

For our built-in cards, multipliers are sourced from the issuer's public terms. The exact "verified" date is shown in your Wallet (currently January 2026). Issuers update terms regularly — if a number looks off, tap Add Card in the Wallet and enter the current rate yourself; the app will use your values.

Why can't I book directly inside the app?

We chose not to operate a booking engine. When you tap "Book on Skyscanner" or "Book direct on {Airline}", you leave PointSmart and complete the booking on the partner site under their terms. This means no PointSmart account is needed, no payment info reaches us, and customer-support issues stay with the actual seller (Skyscanner or the airline). An in-app checkout is on our roadmap, but only if and when our users tell us they want it.

Why doesn't a specific airline / card show up?

Flight inventory is sourced live from Duffel — most carriers are covered but some low-cost airlines and regional carriers aren't. If you're looking at the wallet, the built-in card list focuses on the most common US travel cards; you can add any card manually via the Add Card button.

Do you sell my data?

No. We don't sell, share with data brokers, or run third-party ad trackers. Card balances and saved trips never leave your device — they live in your browser's localStorage. The only data that touches our servers is the search query itself (origin, destination, dates), and that's forwarded to Duffel to fetch results. Full detail in our Privacy Policy.

How do I export or delete my data?

Because we don't hold a per-user record, there's nothing on our side to export or delete. To wipe what's on your device, clear site data for pointsmart.app via your browser's settings.

Is the Inspire feature live or cached?

Live, but with a 6-hour CDN cache. When you tap "Inspire Me", we fire parallel Duffel searches for ~6 curated weekend destinations from your origin. The same origin+dates pair returns near-instantly for the next visitor that day. Prices are real but offers may shift between Inspire and the partner site's checkout — verify on the partner site before booking.
